Preliminary Task - The Game

This is our first attempt at editing and filming on our own, as you can see its not the best but we know how to edit and film our major piece properly. due to a unsuspected stoppage in filming the film jumped a little but we edited it as much as possible to overcome the effect it had.

Preliminy Research.

Continuity editing is where you select the good parts of the film and edit them together to make a good movie, and a story line, which is something that the eye can do naturally. The two categories include 'Temporal cutting' and 'Spatial cutting'. This also means that you can put in special effects and animations after the scene has been shot.

Temporal cutting is showing the audience that the narrative has changed. Also temporal cutting connotes shots to support the narrative development and may be linear progression or not, flashback or flash forward establishes the progression of time.

Spatial cutting is used to create unfilled space through editing shots from different sort of angles and framing shot/reverse shot. Kuleshov effect and parallel editing. Spatial Editing also has a 180 degree rule where you have to imagine there is a line going across separating the room in two. The camera women or man have to follow these rules to stay on one side. If the camera women/man was to change sides they have to show the camera movement because if you didn't show the movement it wouldn't make the film more realistic as it should. There has to be 30 degrees between the shots of the same subject, if their wasn't it would make the film look unnatural and bizarre.

When the camera women is filming a conversation between two people the best camera shot to use is called the 'over the shoulder shot' because when the camera is focusing on the person speaking it will engage the audience to listen carefully to the conversation. Also when using the 'over shoulder shot' its clear to see their facial expressions. An example of this is in the film 'Mean girls' Another name for this is the shot reverse shot as then the camera normally switches to the other actors shoulder. This shot is normally used for dialogue between two people and can focus in on the person talking.
This is a match action shot from Johnny English Reborn. here we can see the scene opens to a long shot, then as the action unfolds it zooms in to a medium shot but still has the same focus point in that shot. It has zoomed in to this shot so we can see the emotion on the actors face which makes the scene more effective.

I think that continuity editing is very important in the process of shooting a film. I think this because  it's important that the transition between shots run as smooth as possible to ensure that the audience has maximum enjoyment and excitement form the film and no attention is drawn to the change in shot. Without it wouldn't make the film run smoothly it would jump between different shots, also it creates a more stable platform viewing and helps the audience not to be not disturbed by the transitions.

Improved Treatment.

The set up for our film opening is set in a park. We decided to use the wooded area of the park for the film because it would create a tense atmosphere and it would invite the emotion of being scared into the audience because they know that the woods is a quite, isolated and threatening place to be, especially in the dark when out film is going to be filmed. Also, the horror genre portrays the woods as scary because some films contain scenes which are filmed in the woods, and that usually ends up with a death. For example, The Blair Witch Project. It is set in the woods because our film is based on a camping trip and we thought that the woods would be an ideal place for the film to commence. This would automatically stop the audience from suspecting what might happen.
In our film, the protagonist is Chelsea, who portrays herself as the popular beautiful girl who has a mean streak and a history for breaking boys hearts. Her character changes throughout the film and realises life is not just about her. Towards the end of the film, she portrays herself as the hero/heroine because she tries to solve the murders and goes out of her way to try and find out who his identity is. She also realises that its not just her and her friends at stake, its the whole community.
In our film, the adversary is Scott, who portrays himself as a geek that is lonely with barely any friends. He is known to have a crush on the popular beautiful girl (Chelsea), but when he finally plucks up the courage to asks her out, she rejects him to send him into a rage, which then completely changes his character from the innocent geek to a totally new character from what he has been portraying from the start. The audience will then see a side of him nobody thought that they would see. The theory of our film from this will be based on friendship, but will also see elements of identity and also a twist of love and humiliation.
The 3 act structure for our film are as follows:
  • The Set Up (Equilibrium) - This is the start of the story when the setting is shown and the characters are introduced to the audience. The equilibrium of our film is when the characters are at school and have planned a camping trip. Then Scott asks out Chelsea, but she rejects him, which sends him into a rage. Then they go camping later on then it gets into the disequilibrium.
  • The Setback (Disequilibrium) - This is the part of the story when the characters have a problem to solve. The disequilibrium of our film is when I get killed after the killer mistakes my identity for Chelsea's. This is because I dressed like her to mimic her. Then Chelsea finds me and gets caught by everybody else and it looks like she had killed me. But she sets out to try to find out who is the real killer.
  • The resoultion (New state of equilibrium) - This is the ending of the story when the problem gets solbed and everything is back to normal again. The new state of equilibrium of our film is when Chelsea finds out the identity of the killer and kills him to save her remaining friends and the community.
Our film also has a good use of character types. The character types of our film are as follows:
The Hero is Chelsea because she goes out of her way to find out the identity of the killer so that she not only saves herself, but everybody else in the community.
The Villain is Scott because he gets rejected the the popular beautiful girl (Chelsea) which seems to be the final straw that sends him into a rage and that makes him kill everybody around him. He sees it as his way of revenge for being rejected.
The Sidekick is Siobhan because she is Chelsea's best mate and helps her on her adventure to find out the identity of the killer and also is there when the hero needs someone around for her.
Our story also uses one important binary opposititon.
The binary opposition that we use is good vs bad. This is because Chelsea is the good character and Scott is the bad character.
  • The set up- In our film its the setting which is the park/woods. We have chosen this setting as in connotes the typical horror genre of a dark scary woods at night, and it has moving shadows and creates a eerie setting without much help from us. the equilibrium in this sert up
  • The set back which is when a character is killed due to mistaken identity.
  • The resolution which is the ending, e.g. solving the murders, running away from the killer screaming and shouting and trying to save your own life and others by fighting off the killer and winning.
The Character types for our film are the hero which is Chelsea, because she tries to stop the killer and save everybody, the villain is Scott because when he gets rejected by the popular girl, its the final straw for him so he decides he wants revenge which is what our film is really about. The hero helper (sidekick) in our film is myself because in the film i follow the hero on her adventure to stop the killer and I'm there to support the hero but also the back her up when things go wrong.

Narrative Theories Research Task

Narrative is used for story telling to engage the audiences attention so it gets them hooked so much that it makes them want to keep on watching the movie from start to finish. Narrative are important becuase if you dont have narratives, it wouldnt make the storyline as interesting as it can possibly be. A mass number of people AND stories start with the classic line "Once Upon A Time". The films that usually start with this line are usually fairytales or fantasies. This makes is magical and easy to under for young children and also makes it more interesting for them.
Once Upon A Time is not just a way to start of a magical fairytale. It also has plenty of meanings behind it. It is filled with loads of secret connotations. For example, "Once" makes us think about the past and all the memories and everything else that may have happened in the past. "Upon A Time" can lead us to our own world and all of our wishes and wants. This creates our own vision of whats going on and is like a dream compared to our own world. At the end of most fairytales, good mostly always gets the better of evil, which is always told at the end of the story to keep the audience watching/reading on.
Narratives can put characters from films into character types, which makes it a narrative theory.
The character types are as follows:
  • The Hero: Leads the narrative and is usually looking to solve something (Puzzle, Problems etc.)
  • The Villain: Conflicts with the hero
  • The Heroine: Is usually some sort of prize or reward that the hero
  • The Father: An authority figure who offers a reward to the hero for completing their quest
  • The Helper: Helps the hero; often acts as a sidekick
  • The Donor: Gives the hero something; a clue, a talisman, a weapon; which helps them complete their quest
  • The Mentor: Teaches and guides the hero
Another narrative theory is Binary Oppositions. Binary Oppositions are a pair of related terms or concepts that are the total opposite in meaning. For example, Truth/Lies, Black/White, Love/Hate, Strong/Weak etc. Binary Oppositions can help to show who are the good and bad characters in a particular film. Another narrative theory is the Equilibrium theory. Equilibrium is basically the start of the film, before the character starts his quest which will carry on the rest of the story. Disequilibrium is practically the middle of the story when the character has set off on their quest and has found the problems that is stopping them for completing their quest. Finally, the new state of Equilibrium is the ending and how the character has changed after they completed the quest.
An example of a film that uses ALL of the narrative theories is Johnny English Reborn.
Firstly it uses character types with the hero being Johnny English (Rowan Atkinson), the villain being the evil gang Vortex, the heroine being Kate Summers (Rosamund Pike), the father being Pegasus (Gillian Anderson), the helper being Agent Tucker (Daniel Kaluuya), the donor/s being the Scientists (the ones who made all the weapons for Johnny English to use and Agent Tucker, and the mentor being the Shaoulin Monk. Also the Binary Oppositions was used in the storyline because the story was based on good fighting against evil with good coming out on top at the end of the film. And lastly, it also used the Equilibrium theory. The Equilibrium was when Johnny went to mountain camp. The disequilibrium was when Vortex disrupted everything and started killing high powered people, and the new state of Equilibrium was when Johnny defeated Vortex and then leaves mountain camp to pursue his career.

Our Group Genre Conventions. - Final decisions.

Firstly for our costumes, we have decided to go really over the top with our costumes as comedy/ horror normally portray. For instance in Scary movie the killers costume is very over the top as he is basically wearing a Halloween costume, which everyone is familiar with. The heroine in our film will be a very girly girl with lots of makeup nice clothes always caring about her looks, and if people are looking at her, like the girl at the start of scary movie Drew Decker would be the very over the top girly girl as she has a lot of makeup on and act out scenes from Baywatch as she runs through sprinklers, proving that she’s confident with her looks. Because of these costume choices this provides the film with a comedy element.

Lighting in our film will be very important but because of where we are setting it in the woods, it will be done for us so for example the darkness of the rest of the wood, Will help with the effect or mystery and make the audience feel a little scared, but the lights from around the camping site should help bring contrast to where the good and evil take place. Lighting use will help because shadows that will fall on the villains face will also help make the audience convinced that he is defiantly the evil and bad person in this film. The shadows created by the moving tree branches and falling leaves, will help as this will also connote that it’s a very eerie place where we are and that there isn't any around for miles.

Props is another very important area for our film as we are doing a horror/comedy we have to use a prop that be found funny but can do damage, so for instance when the killer first try’s to kill the victim we will use a banana as this isn't usually associated with danger or death but it makes the comedy element of our film glow, as no one expect someone to be killed with a banana. This also creates no murder weapon as then the villain can eat the weapon as has going back to his friend leaving no evidence of what killed the victim. Then the main proper killing will be done with a knife as is normally expected in a horror/comedy film.

Mis - En - Scene is actually very easy for us to accomplish due to our location of our film, the wooded area provides the scary mysterious setting we need to accomplish our theme and genre goals. Due to us setting the film at night the dark shadowy trees will reflect the moonlight creating a mysterious effect through the trees and focus all attention on the lights around the camp site. this creates the focus on the campsite but remains that the area that is in darkness is the most scaryest part of the setting.

Final Cut Introduction.

My aim for today is to create a movie scene in front of the white house when a alien spacecraft blows it up.
I am in a pair with Rhys, and we have created a short piece based on two tourists filming in front of the white house when it blows up. We tried to enrol a few comdey issues such as leaving the camera lense on and waving to the cameras a sign of comedy. We done this with few problems with learning lines but overall we think we done a good job. we encountered a problem with the apple mac computers in the mac suite where the camera had recorded the clip into a type of cut that the software we are using ( final cut express) didn't recognise the video we was trying to upload onto it. so to get around this, we converted the software to a format that final cut recognised and accepted.

Treatment - when the clock strikes 12

The main theme of our film is Comedy/Horror. The first idea for our film is to have the characters camping out for the night in the middle of a park, then a killer kills the  victim  after he mistakes his  identity for another person. This is going to be achieved in a funny fold of events to show that our film also has elements of comedy.
In our film opening, we have two main characters, the killer and his victim. The killer is The Striker. This is because he always strikes on his victims when the clock strikes 12 o'clock. hence the name of our film. The killer in the opening scene is familiar because we have based it on a previous  horror/comedy movie scary movie, the killer always leaves a "trademark" behind to scare off the victims and have them to live in fear in case he strikes again. The "trademarks" are the warning given out by the killer. The killer will also wear a dark cloak and a stupid mask to show off his character and make him unique and a typical killer.
The goal of the killer will be to try and mislead his friends into believeing he isn't the killer, when really he will be plotting against them to kill them off throughout the story. A catchphrase that is used by the killer is "keep your friends close but your enemies closer". The killer uses this phrase as his trade mark as a  warning to his victims that he may strike even though they know nothing about what he is planning. This will create a creepy atmosphere and set the tension for the rest of the audience to watch. So the killer arranges a camping trip, knowing that he will kill his friends, even though he will mistake the identity of the person he wants to kill for someone else.
The blond character that survives  will find out what the killer has been up to and the reasons why he killed them people. This will lead to a big climax at the end of the film where the killer and the survivor are having a massive argument, which will then lead to a hysterical fight which ends when the killer suffers a massive heart attack and dies in the arms of the blond survivor, making her look like she has killed him. She was the target of the killer in the first place and she ended up on top at the end.
There is alot at stake for this film for the victims because they are thinking they are going out for a nice camping night with their friends to have a laugh, and that nothing like what happens that night will happen and then the killer strikes, which will create a dark atmosphere and masses of tension for the audience watching. Also, the killers reputation is at stake because it will be his friends that his is slowly killing off and is desperately trying not to give himself away because he goes missing to do the killings.
The film will take place in the wooded area of Radleys Park. We will put a tent in the middle of the woods and that is where the killing will take place.
Another interesting character that will be used is the killers getaway person. He will be a sinister character that seems like a psycho. He will drive his van to pick up the killer and speed up to try and make a quick getaway so they don't get caught.

Audience Research Task.

Audience research is important especially for the advertising agencies which need to target the right audience in the right ways. All of the media messages are produced by keeping the target audience in mind so, through media audience research it is assumed that we are completing  the aim to produce the right message. If the audience does not take interest in any advertising message then it is of no value and it gets a sunk cost for the company. Therefore, before making a media message to go through a media audience research is very necessary.

Age, Gender,Ethnicity, race, and cultural background, Education,Religious and political affiliations,Economic status,Sexual orientation,Family background,Group membership
These are all aspects that producers and directors think of when creating a film epically when its a specific film for a specific audience. this gives the director and producers a idea of how to base their film a guideline or "template". to how the movie sdhould be set out so for example there are pg films which are films that little children should be wary of and should have parental guidence while watching it as may contain scene that younger children would find scary.
some key audience theories would be the two step flow diagram which is personally think is the best and most realistic because of personal experience. the two step flow diagram is basically what happens when one person goes to see a film once that person ahas seen it he goes home or out with mates which then he or she will pass on the information about the film and if it was good or bad, which in turn makes other people decide whether they want to see it or not. a example of a film this happened with would be Mr beans holiday, as because of the previous TV debut every knows who and what Mr bean is and does so once one person heard of the film they immediately told friends and relatives as its past reputation as being a TV series came into play.

Our mood board

This is our mood board. we have chosen the concepts of typical blond, survivor, slapstick comedy and silly costumes. we have shown this with several pictures and words, and art work.

Firstly we have shown the concept of survivor by the girl in the top left hand corner with a gun. this shows survival instincts and willing to survive but also can show adventure and action. this is important to the comdey horror genre as it keeps the auidence on edge but also can proide opportunities for funny events to happen.

We have shown slapstick by the comedy pictures around the poster for instance  pictures of popular comedy people such as Michael McIntyre and  Lee Evans who are both know for their comedy stand ups and slapstick comedy and being able to think up new comedy material while on stage.

The third concept we have is silly constumes, we think that this is an important of the horror comedy genre it helps to portray the comedy side but can help to portray the comedy as well for instasnce we have put my bean on out poster as he alweays dresses funny but next two him are two doll like creatures from a Doctor who episode which are dressed in a horror type fashion but which we think is still funny.

Our last concept is the stereo typical blond that most horror comedy genre starts with becaause they are normally the first to be killed as in scary movie and is the most dumbest of the characters normally. this is important as it gives a sence of wehats to come in therest of the movie.

Genre research.

Genre is a type of movie, so there are many types of genre such as : horror, comedy, thriller, action, adventure and a couple more. films fit into these category's depending on the movie content and what the movies about or based on.

There are many advantages to genres one of them are that it sorts films into category's and makes films easier to choose. so if you like horror with a bit of comedy you would go the the genre of comedy/ horror or if you like a bit of like thriller you would go to thriller. over all it helps the audience choose a film that will be best suited to them and there liking. Also it gives the directors and producers and writers a rouge guide line to what is needed to make the film successful so say if they was doing a sci-fi they would know it would probably have to be set in the future and in space.

The disadvantages to a genre is there are strict guidelines to what makes each genre and if you make a error in judgment it can bring the entire film down.

The genre we have chosen for our film is comedy/horror the conventions for this type of film would be that it has horror events such as stabbings and murders but it does them in a funny way so take for instance the opening on scary movie the villain stabs a girl in the heart but only to find his stabbed her implants which makes it funny. more conventions would be that the horror is a side genre where as the comedy is the main focus of this film.

Genre history:
Comedy horror, also known as horror comedy, is literary and film genre, combining elements of comedy and horror fiction. The comedy horror genre almost always inevitably crosses over with black comedy genre, and in some respects may be considered a subset of it.
The short story "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" by Washington Irving is cited as "the first great comedy-horror story". The story made readers "laugh one moment and scream the next", and its premise was based on mischief typically found during the holiday Halloween.

People who i think are important to "mimic " so to speak would be people like the director of scary movie Keenen Ivory Wayans as he has directed and stared in several movies and TV programmes  In Living Color was one of the TV programmes he was in and directed. one of his other movies was White Chicks which also was a very successful film. I have a couple of ideas for actors for which i would like to take inspiration off people like Dave Sheridan who stared in scary movie as " special officer doofy" but also played the scream masked killer. also i would like to take inspiration from Jim Carrey as he has played many roles in many films but my personal pinion of him is that he is an amazing actor and defiantly excels as a comedian and one of his films that really stands out is Bruce Almighty as this film got him nominated for a number of awards because of this film and how brilliantly he acted in the film and that's why id like to image him the most.
Jim Carrey
Keenen Ivory Wayans

Dave Sheridan as the mask.
Dave Sheridan

I think that the film Scary Movie is a good example of my chosen genre because it is one of the most highest grossing film of the series. it has the genre of comedy/horror and it plays it really well as the story line is that a group of teenagers killed a man last Halloween with the line "I know what you did last Halloween" I think that this film is a good example of my genre as every one knows what scary movie is and every has heard of it. I think it blends comedy with horror very well and i think that it is one of the best horror comedy films going.  this movie has all the conventions of a comedy horror as it has a man in a scary costume stabbings and people running away. but it does them all in funny circumstances.

Codes and Conventions of Film Openings

Most film opening share a start to them that shows the film company that made them so for instance in the bad boys trailer i posted a few days ago that has Columbia films logo presented at (0.13) (the opening can  be seen below.) then is says Columbia pictures presents this is showing that the Columbia film studios own this film. where as in the opening for scary movie shows that its owned by dimension films (0.01)

The establishing shot of these fiilms are very different scary movie starts with a long shot showing the whole set where as bad boys shows the wheel of the car in a extreme close up shot. the long shot creates the effect that we are bieng shown what is going on where we are before the movie actually starts. the bad boys movie starts with us chucked directly into the film so we feel as we are part of the movie right from the start.

the titles of these movies come at the end of the opening scene but there are no character names mentions or actor names in captions in the scary movie opening. in the bad boys opening there are however the names of the actors come up at the beginning but once again the title of the film don't appear till the end of the scene. also the scary movie opening show one of the main characters and one that is just there to start off the sequence. but in the bad boys movie you see the two main characters and you learn what their role is and what jobs they have the type of characters they are and you lean somewhat how the story's going to end up.

The genre conventions portrayed in these openings are quite different; whereas scary movie opening portrays comedy with a little horror it does this by making a layout course a to generate a comically funny serious of silly events but the fact it happens on Halloween Friday the 13th and the fact that the killer is dressed up in a scream costume portrays the side of horror involved. The bad boy opening portrays action and adventure with a little thriller. it does this by using a fast car a lot of swearing and the use of guns. also the action part is generated by the face in the first scene there is a attempted car jacking and how they handle it prove that the film will involve action and adventure.

All of my films are the first of there sequels. the bad boys and johnny English film is the only one to have the actors name in the credits at the start the scary movie film doesn't have this.

Friday 23 September 2011

this is the trailer to Johnny English. the film genre is a action/comedy. The genre conventions of this type of film would be; funny scene such as (0.36) and (0.59) but also it uses action such as (0.51) and (0.19).

There are two kinds of codes in this film one is technical where the camera angles are very low to the ground and then switch up to eye level s such as (0.13) when the camera is low  creates the connotation that he is in control and can pretty much do what he likes. also it creates the connotation that he is amazing and we should look up to him as the camera is doing. the symbolic codes would be that the fact when it starts its dark setting showing that the character will be in charge  one time and that he under cover also the actors facial expressions show that he isn't phased by the big dogs or woman pointing a gun at him showing bravery and fearlessness, but then as it fades out into a day dream we find out that he isn't in control and he very much wants to be.

The key signifies for this film would be that the intro music is very action related as it brings in to the actor day dreaming about what he really wants to be. then as it goes in it goes to silly music showing that Johnny is going to be a funny and silly character that will make us laugh throughout the film. also the images of fire and the way that the images are moving across the scene proves that the film is going to be about action and adventure with fight scenes through the film but also silly fight scenes with Johnny probably coming worse off.

This sequence tells us that the rest of the movie is going to be funny with action and adventure mixed into it so hence at (0.19) but also is going to be silly hence (0.36) this shows that this movie should be a really funny film to watch and will be very good.my expectations of this movie now are for it to mix action adventure and comedy together in a very good mix to show a very good movie which should have you in stitches and also on the edge of your seats. The auidences bieng targeted by this movie i would think would be teenagers from 14  onwards both male and female as its very funny and mixes well with adventure and action i think teenagerss and people in their 20's would be very happy with this film.

Scary Movie Opening Scene

this is the opening to scary movie, the film of which we are basing our film on. the film genre of this film is comedy based on a horror. the genre conventions of this film are that is should be scary with a little comedy like other horrors, but this isn't so as you can see at (0.20) into the opening scene above it has a lot more comedy than normal horrors do and its sort of like a comedy with horror added in as a side line. the key codes in this film are the camera angles it uses medium level camera angles to create the effect that we are there watching the events unfold. a symbolic code would be the face that the way the scene is set out hence its at night so its dark creating the effect of nervousness

The key signifier's in this film is the man in the Halloween costume "scream" this creates a scary edge to it but as the film gets into it it turns into a funny scene instead with the scream character reading a porn magazine.

The sequence of the opening scene shows us that the rest of the  movie should be funny with a tinge of horror  but as the first scene  commences it shows us just how the comedy aspect is tied in to the so called horror film. so the rest of the film should be covered with comedy.

i think the audiences that are targeted in this film would be mainly male as it has a lot of "sexy girls" in it specifically the teenage Range so from ages 14 onwards as it has a lot a violence in it which appeals to tennagers the most but it also has alot of comedy in it that would appeal to the older audiences such as 40 onwards.

Bad Boys opening scene

This is the opening to bad boys the genre is action and adventure. This makes the viewer expect action and a lot of gun violence and chasing scenes that will happen during the film. but this opening scene give the polot away immediatly as it shows action in the form of a car jacking and alot of swearing and guns. the key technical codes of this opening is there are a lot of different camera angles as it satarts with a ground shot of the wheel of the car their driving (0.34) then changes to a eye level view it uses a lot of ground shots hence when when the bad guys get out of thier car (1.54) and then it uses a medium shot when they attempt to steal the car (2.20) also martin lawrances facial expressions when the thiefs point a gun at him shows he cant belive it and is pissed off about it. the key signifyers are that its as relitivly dark scene and the way the wording is it involves alot of swearing and obcene language.the sound is very loud and brash. this sequence tells us that the mmovie willl be very action related with alot of swearing guns and fight scenes. my expectations of this film would be alot of action with a little bit of comedy also incorporated into the film.i think the audiuences biwng involved are mainly men preferably 14 onwrads as its very gun related and violet hich relates to teen genres but also has beautiful women in it.

scary movie 1 trailer

This is the trailer for the movie in which we are basing our film on.

Group Idea

We have chosen scary movie to base our film on. The genre of this movie is horror/comedy. three codes of this movie would be low key lighting, dark appearance and lots of stupid actions. The three conventions of this film are blood, gore and lots of dark scary scenes. the key signifier of this film are the man in black suit - evil the film title is in red - colour of blood and in capitals - to create emphasis to draw in potential viewers.
The postor denotates that the films going to be scary due to the title "scary movie," also because the titles in red in makes it look like blood related. The meaning behind the postor (connotates) is that its going to be a scary movie to some extents but is also going to have comdey etched into it by the looks of the faces if the people on it also the popcorn falling over the front suggests that its going to be funny and should prepare for some comedy. They are communicating various themes about the film and how the film may or may not turn out as the title suggests scary movie that it might be scary the imaging on the poster suggests that it will also have various elements of comedy and be a laugh to watch.

My film genre

We have chosen our groups to create out start of our movie, my group is me, Rhys Birch, Chelsea Jay, Siobhan Powell. We have chosen the theme of horror/comedy. We have chosen this because we all like the mix of comedy and horror as in scary movie as this also uses horror and comedy as a theme.

A movie poster for my film genre.

This is a poster advetising Johnny English, which is a comedy genre film. Three codes and conventions of this genre would be funny lots of jokes and stupid actions lot of action scenes that seem genuine but turn out to be very bad which in turn makes it funny. the codes would be high key lighting for the funny parts but when it turns to action the film switches to low key lighting instead, there is alot of  key signifyers in this movie poster for example the way hes standing, and a funny pose, the fact he has a smile on his face, plus the sublitles when it says " he knows nothing" makes us think its going to be funny as he dont know what hes doing.  The poster denotes a supposedly secret agent posing for a camera. The poster connotes that hes going to fail and fail with halirous consiquences. They are communicating with the audience that the film is going to be very funny and involve a bit of action and a lot of comedy. They are communicating this so that the approiate audience purchases the film and to draw people in who do like comedy.
